Beyond Band-Aids: Natural Solutions for Anxiety, Pain and Cellular Healing
As a naturopathic medical doctor, Haglund describes herself as a “health detective,” carefully piecing together each patient’s story to uncover root causes rather than simply suppress symptoms. She works with individuals across the lifespan—from newborns to patients in their late 80s—addressing physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions of health.
Root-Cause Mental Health Care
Haglund is particularly experienced in supporting mental health and brain-related conditions through natural medicine. She frequently works with patients navigating anxiety, depression, attention deficit disorder (ADD), autism, behavioral disorders, postpartum mood concerns, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Her approach integrates detailed lab testing with personalized treatment plans that may include nutrition therapy, botanical medicine, mineral repletion, amino acid therapy and targeted neurotransmitter support. She also incorporates homeopathy, hydrotherapy, biotherapeutic drainage, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and the use of a Finnish sauna to support detoxification and cellular repair.
“Eating protein along with foods containing zinc and B vitamins in the morning prepares the body to make neurotransmitters,” Haglund explains. “Taking a methylated B complex can help, and vitamin C helps settle the nerves.”
Rather than defaulting to pharmaceuticals, she prioritizes cost-effective, foundational interventions—sleep optimization, stress reduction, mineral balance, movement and daily sunlight exposure. “Simple actions, like getting outdoors into the sunshine and practicing deep breathing every morning, help calm the body and lower stress,” she notes.
Remarkable Clinical Outcomes
Haglund shares that some of her most rewarding moments come from witnessing rapid shifts once the correct remedy is identified.
“I’ve had so many successes this year, which is really rewarding,” she says. “I had a patient with bone-on-bone knee pain even after surgery. I figured out what she needed. The pain was gone during her appointment and has never returned.”
In another case, a patient who had struggled with anticipatory anxiety since childhood experienced resolution after individualized homeopathic treatment. She also describes a patient who reported a breast lump that resolved in less than a week after consistent use of internal remedies and topical applications.
For Haglund, these outcomes reflect what is possible when the body is supported at the cellular level. By removing the root cause, the body can heal and rebalance in remarkable ways.
Training and Philosophy
Naturopathic doctors receive four-year, graduate-level medical training from accredited naturopathic institutions, studying basic sciences, pharmacology, cadaver lab anatomy, biochemistry and physiology alongside nutrition, botanical medicine and wellness counseling.
Haglund earned her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree and a certificate in natural childbirth from the National University of Natural Medicine (formerly the National College of Naturopathic Medicine) in Portland, Oregon. She has also trained as a midwife.
Her philosophy centers on individualized, whole-person care and recognizing when to collaborate. She maintains a referral network of health professionals and encourages patients to seek appropriate support rather than self-diagnosing through online searches or social media trends.
“It’s important to recognize when to make an investment in oneself and seek root-cause professional help,” she says.
Looking Ahead
In addition to her clinical work, Haglund is currently writing a memoir, reflecting on her personal and professional journey in medicine.
