Women: Reclaiming Our Power During Menopause

Sleep becomes unpredictable. Hot flashes interrupt the day or night. They may notice stiffness, difficulty concentrating or an irritability that catches them by surprise. Some say, “I just don’t feel like myself.”
Naturally, they want answers. They research, talk with their doctors and look for ways to feel better. Hormonal changes are a real part of this transition, and symptoms deserve attention and appropriate medical care.
Alongside those physical changes, I often hear another question emerging: “Who am I now?”
For many women, this stage of life brings an opportunity to look at patterns they have lived with for years. Perhaps they have been the caregiver, the peacemaker or the strong one everyone depends on. Perhaps they have become so accustomed to being busy that they barely notice how exhausted they are.
Then something begins to shift. The familiar way of moving through life feels harder to sustain. A woman who has always said yes may begin to recognize how much she needs rest. Someone who has kept the peace for decades may feel ready to speak honestly.
That can feel unsettling. We may wonder what is wrong with us when we no longer have the patience or energy to keep doing what we have always done.
But needing something different does not mean we are broken.
We see this time as a possible rebirth; a chance to become more aware of ourselves and more intentional about how we want to live. Every woman’s experience is different. There is no requirement to turn a difficult transition into a lesson. Still, there can be room for discovery alongside the search for relief.
At Healing Waters, our work includes AcuEnergetics®, a hands-on complementary practice focused on what we describe as energy flow in the body. This energetic framework guides our approach; it is distinct from a medical explanation of symptoms. Alongside medical care, our sessions offer space for women to pause, notice their experience and reconnect with themselves.
One woman came in describing how anxious she felt about the world. She worried about her children and grandchildren and found herself returning to the same fears. Watching the news added to her distress, yet she struggled to step away.
She described herself as feeling “wired” much of the time. Her husband seemed able to let things go, and she wished she could do the same.
By relaxing one of the systems of the body that governs fright/flight/fight, her body softened. Afterward, she said her mind felt quieter and she felt much more relaxed.
We had not resolved the events in the news or talked her into a different perspective. She had experienced a moment of ease. Because there is such a strong mind-body connection, by relaxing the body and creating more flow, the mind is able to relax as well.
This creates change.
Experiences like this remind me how much we can need a pause before considering what comes next.
Reclaiming our power can begin with small choices: asking for support, setting a boundary, taking a break from the news or making time for something we enjoy. It can mean noticing when we are saying yes out of habit and giving ourselves permission to answer differently.
We can care deeply about our families and the world while also caring for ourselves.
Power is that growing ability to hear our own needs and respond to them. It is finding our voice within a relationship. It is recognizing what brings us joy and allowing it a place in our lives.
During this transition, we deserve support for both our physical symptoms and the questions we are carrying.
At Healing Waters Health Center, we welcome women seeking space to reconnect with themselves and explore a greater sense of ease in their bodies and lives. Let us assist you in unwinding the tension in your body and mind.
