Appliance Company Installs Solar Panels at its Headquarters

Warners’ Stellian, a 50-year-old Minnesota-based appliance company, has installed solar panels at its St. Paul warehouse and headquarters. The 210 solar panels (190 watts each) and 210 reflective panels are expected to supply 20 percent of the company’s power needs each year.

Warners’ Stellian invested $300,000 in an effort to decrease its energy usage and carbon footprint and expects the solar panel system, which has an expected life span of 40 years, to have paid for itself with energy savings after five years.

Going solar is the latest of the company’s recent eco-friendly projects, all part of the family-owned business’s commitment to reducing waste and energy use and to showing how businesses of any size can put green ideas into action. Warners’ Stellian also has reduced shipping waste, launched an appliance packaging recycling program and decreased the use of bottled water by offering water coolers. The company’s next step will be to introduce a fleet of alternative-fuel delivery vehicles in 2014.
