Craniosacral Therapist Joins Natural Smiles Dental Care
Natural Smiles Dental Care is excited to welcome Jackie Lowe, craniosacral therapist and certified lactation educator counselor. Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a light touch treatment technique focused on releasing restrictions within the craniosacral system. This system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord as well as the attached bones. These areas extend from the bones in the skull, face, and mouth all the way down to the tailbone area. An imbalance or restriction within this system can cause sensory, motor and/or neurological dysfunctions.
Anyone can benefit from the therapeutic balancing of craniosacral therapy, including adults suffering from headaches, TMJ pain or chronic facial pain, as well as children who are in orthodontics. Oftentimes the primary causes of crowded teeth and malocclusion can relate to improper or inadequate cranial movement. Therefore, treating children who are currently in orthodontic treatment or who have had a history of braces can help their bodies more readily accept the changes being made to their mouths and teeth.
As a Lactation Educator Counselor, Lowe is also able to help nursing mothers who are having difficulties with feeding their babies. The birth process itself can sometimes cause infant cranial restrictions which directly affect the proper motions of the tongue, lips and throat. Lowe is able to screen the babies for possible tongue and lip ties which can physically inhibit their ability to latch. Ultimately, she aims for the successful physical, spiritual and emotional bond to occur between mother and baby. She explains, "As a mother, wife and lover of all things holistic and healing, my mission is to provide nourishing support and healing to families so that they may be functioning at their highest levels."
