Therapy Spotlight: Emotional Freedom Techniques

Elda Dorothy

You know when you have a "nagging feeling" and you don’t address it, what happens? It turns into something much bigger because we tend to bury our emotions deep inside.

The theory from Gary Craig, developer of the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), is that “the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.”

EFT (commonly known as "tapping") is a form of emotional acupuncture—without the needles. A person uses their fingertips to tap on their own acupuncture meridian points. (For a video demonstration, visit eft.Mercola.com.)

Clinical trials have shown that EFT is able to quickly reduce the emotional impact of memories of events or actions that trigger us into stress mode. Once the emotion is separated from the memory, the body can rebalance itself to the point of emotional and many times physical healing.

Besides health-related stress and pain, some other areas that EFT makes a difference include relationship issues, stress over money situations, or job related issues.

Clinical EFT is “evidence-based,” which means it has a body of scientific studies that supports its effectiveness.

EFT calms the stress that underlies many problems—physical or psychological. Once that stress disappears, the problem tends to diminish in severity.

Although EFT is a self-empowerment tool, there are times it is beneficial to work with a certified practitioner with intent listening skills serving as a guide, which will assist the client in getting to the bottom of their issue at a deeper level by using the exact words with which they need to be tapping.

Elda Dorothy’s focus is on issues of family estrangement, but she has helped people challenged with limited money beliefs, fear of driving in the snow, significant other relationship issues, and many other areas of limitation. She is available for group speaking engagements. For more information and to address a specific need, email [email protected] or visit CompassionateTruth.com.
