This is my perspective on balance, and it took a while for me to see it through this lens. For a long time, I would strive to find perfect balance in health and wellness, and in all things. It was as if I held a large plate in my hand, constantly adding to it work, relationships, exercise and health habits, learning and work, social activities, hobbies and sleep, only to feel like every time I worked on one thing, the plate would tip and another thing would slip off.
What I didn’t realize was that all of these things are important, and that 24 hours and 365 days
just simply isn’t enough to find perfect balance in all things, all the time. The missing ingredient was acceptance of the imbalance, too.
Some days, I need more rest. Some weeks, I spend more quality time with family. Some years, I am more focused on learning or growth. But when I zoom out to life as a whole, I find peace in honoring all these aspects of health and harmony.
That is what this Mind, Body, Spirit issue is about. It focuses on Emotional Healing and Mental Wellness, which overlaps with our physical and spiritual selves. Be Well Your Way empowers others to find health by honoring each person’s unique needs on page 10. They share a Wheel of Health perspective that encompasses Nutrition, Movement, Sleep, Connection, Play and Energy. All things are important, and the equilibrium will look different for everyone.
We look at mind-body healing strategies to work through trauma on page 12 and explore how parents and role models can help youth find peace and balance during periods of stress of emotional turbulence on page 24. Our energy plays a huge role in our health, too; Healing Waters Health Center on page 18 shares more about how we can tap into our body’s energy field to restore balance and harmony. Our Mind, Body, Spirit Directory, starting on page 20, highlights the multitude of wellness businesses who bring whole-body healing to our community. We are so grateful for their support of our mission and for their wellness wisdom. Perhaps this month is the time to reach out to a new resource and explore how they can help level up your mind, body and spirit. Health is wealth!
Wishing you joy in the balance and peace in the imbalance.
